Shipping Policy
Effective Date: 25/03/2026
Walker Book Works ships from New South Wales, Australia.
This Shipping Policy explains how physical goods are processed, dispatched, and delivered by Walker Book Works. It applies to ready-made goods, made-to-order goods, custom bindings, repair work, restoration work, and any client materials returned after services are completed.
This policy should be read together with the Terms of Service and Refund Policy. Nothing in this policy is intended to exclude or limit any rights you may have under the Australian Consumer Law.
1. Nature of the Work
Walker Book Works is a small-scale handmade business. Some items are held in stock and ready to send, while others are made, finished, or prepared to order. In some cases, materials may need to be sourced from suppliers before work begins.
Custom binding, repair, rebinding, and restoration work are assessed individually. Timeframes can vary depending on the condition of the item, the materials required, the complexity of the work, and the studio workload at the time the order is accepted.
Any timeframe provided by Walker Book Works is an estimate unless expressly stated otherwise.
2. Processing and Dispatch Timeframes
Ready-Made Goods
For in-stock goods, including journals, notebooks, and other finished items, please allow 1–5 business days for packing and dispatch.
Made-to-Order Goods
For handmade or made-to-order goods, please allow 2–4 weeks for dispatch, unless a different timeframe is stated on the product page or agreed in writing.
Custom Orders, Repairs, and Restoration Work
For custom bindings, repair work, restoration work, and other bespoke services, dispatch and return timeframes depend on the nature of the work being carried out.
As a general guide, please allow 3–8 weeks for completion and dispatch. More complex work may require additional time, particularly where specialist materials are needed or additional issues are identified once work has commenced.
Where possible, an estimated timeframe will be discussed with you before work begins.
Supplier Delays
Some work cannot begin immediately if materials need to be ordered from suppliers. If supplier lead times affect your order, Walker Book Works will make reasonable efforts to notify you and provide an updated estimate.
3. Shipping Methods
Orders are generally sent using Australia Post or another suitable carrier, depending on the size, weight, destination, value, and fragility of the parcel.
Available shipping options may include standard and express shipping, depending on the item and destination.
Express shipping applies to the postal service used after dispatch. It does not guarantee faster production, faster repair completion, or faster dispatch unless this has been expressly agreed in writing.
4. Shipping Charges
Shipping costs are calculated at checkout where possible.
For custom work, repair work, bulky items, fragile items, or unusually large parcels, shipping may be quoted separately. Where a separate quote is required, shipping charges will be confirmed before dispatch.
Walker Book Works reserves the right to adjust shipping charges before dispatch where the original charge was clearly incorrect, the parcel requires additional protective packaging, or the item is materially larger, heavier, or more fragile than reasonably anticipated.
If an adjustment is required, you will be contacted before the order is sent.
5. Estimated Delivery Time After Dispatch
Once dispatched, delivery times will depend on the shipping method selected, the destination, and the postal network.
Estimated delivery times within Australia are as follows:
NSW metro and nearby east coast areas: 2–6 business days
Regional NSW and interstate east coast areas: 3–8 business days
WA, NT, and remote areas: 5–12 business days
These delivery timeframes are estimates only and are not guaranteed delivery dates.
6. Tracking
Tracking details will be provided after dispatch where available.
It is the customer’s responsibility to monitor tracking updates once they have been issued. If a parcel appears delayed, misdirected, or lost in transit, please contact Walker Book Works as soon as possible so that reasonable assistance can be provided.
7. Delivery and Authority to Leave
Delivery may occur by handover to the recipient, collection from a postal outlet or parcel locker, redelivery through the carrier, or safe drop where that option is available.
If you request or permit Authority to Leave, or if the shipping service used includes safe drop arrangements, you accept that the parcel may be left unattended at the delivery address.
Walker Book Works is not responsible for theft, loss, weather damage, or other damage occurring after a parcel has been marked as delivered where Authority to Leave or safe drop has been used. This clause does not exclude any rights that may apply under the Australian Consumer Law.
8. Incorrect Addresses and Failed Delivery
You are responsible for ensuring that the delivery address and contact details supplied at checkout are complete and accurate.
Walker Book Works is not responsible for delays, failed deliveries, or additional charges arising from an incorrect address, an incomplete address, refusal of delivery, failure to collect a parcel, or failure to respond to carrier delivery attempts.
If a parcel is returned to Walker Book Works for any of these reasons, additional shipping charges may apply before the parcel is resent.
9. Large, Fragile, or High-Value Items
Some items require additional care in packaging and shipping due to their size, structure, value, or fragility. This may include repaired books, restored books, leather-bound work, boxed or slipcased items, and custom pieces with delicate finishes or surface decoration.
Walker Book Works may choose the packaging method and shipping service reasonably required to protect the item in transit.
Where appropriate, signature on delivery, insurance, or upgraded shipping may be recommended or included in the quoted shipping charge.
10. Client Materials Sent to Walker Book Works
If you send books, papers, or other materials to Walker Book Works for repair, restoration, rebinding, custom work, or assessment, you are responsible for arranging and paying for shipment to the studio unless otherwise agreed.
You should package materials carefully and use tracked shipping wherever possible. For rare, sentimental, fragile, valuable, or one-of-a-kind items, tracked and insured shipping is strongly recommended.
Walker Book Works is not responsible for items lost or damaged in transit before they are received by the studio.
11. Return Shipping of Client Materials
Where client materials are being returned after repair, restoration, rebinding, or related work, return shipping costs will be included in the quoted service or otherwise advised before dispatch, unless expressly stated otherwise.
Walker Book Works will pack returned materials with reasonable care. Once a parcel has been lodged with the carrier, transit handling and delivery timing are outside the direct control of Walker Book Works.
If you would like insurance, signature on delivery, express postage, or another upgraded service for return shipping, this should be requested before dispatch.
12. Delays Outside Our Control
Dispatch and delivery may be affected by events outside the reasonable control of Walker Book Works. These may include supplier delays, material shortages, postal disruptions, severe weather, natural disasters, industrial action, public holidays, peak seasonal demand, customs delays, or carrier operational issues.
If a delay occurs, Walker Book Works will make reasonable efforts to keep you informed and provide an updated estimate where possible.
13. Lost, Damaged, or Missing Parcels
If your parcel arrives damaged, appears incomplete, or is believed to be lost in transit, please contact Walker Book Works promptly.
Where possible, you may be asked to provide photographs of the packaging and contents, your order details, and any relevant tracking information. Walker Book Works may need a reasonable opportunity to investigate the issue with the shipping carrier before determining the appropriate next step.
Nothing in this policy excludes any rights or remedies available under the Australian Consumer Law.
14. International Shipping
International shipping may be offered on selected items or by arrangement.
International customers are responsible for any customs duties, import taxes, local handling charges, clearance fees, or similar charges imposed by the destination country, unless otherwise stated.
International delivery times are estimates only and may vary depending on customs processing, airline and carrier capacity, destination-country restrictions, and local delivery conditions.
Walker Book Works may decline to ship certain items internationally where the item is too fragile, valuable, or otherwise unsuitable for international transit.
15. Consumer Rights
Nothing in this Shipping Policy excludes, restricts, or modifies any consumer rights or remedies that cannot be excluded under law, including rights that may arise under the Australian Consumer Law.
